Welcome Louise

A warm welcome to Louise, our new Village Manager at Arbor Sherwood Retirement Village!

Prior to joining Arbor Sherwood, Louise previously worked in retirement living and aged care sector. Louise is not only excited to meet each of our residents but also thrilled to work alongside the wonderful individuals who make up our vibrant community. Please join us in welcoming Louise as she steps into her new role!

Farewell Karen

Earlier this month we bid farewell to our inaugural Village Manager, Karen. Over the past 4 years, she has played a pivotal role since the village’s opening. We recognise the valuable contributions that Karen has made to the village and its residents, and wish her the best for the future and thank her for the wonderful moments shared and the impact she leaves behind.

Thank you to all the residents who joined us at the farewell event.

Artist in residency

🧑‍🎨 The walls of the village are looking brighter, after last weeks much anticipated unveiling of resident and artist, Noellen Webb’s paintings. These stunning pieces of art now line the walls of the village and we couldn’t be more thankful and appreciative of Noleen’s work.

Take a sneak peek of the artwork now gracing the walls of Arbor! 💚

A night at the Arbor opera

Recently, our residents were treated to a very special Opera performance at the village! 🎭

Australian renowned pianist John Woods was joined by Benjamin Martin, tenor, and Alison Saunders, soprano, to perform a range of emotional and uplifting music.

💚 A huge THANK YOU to Arbor resident Val, for organising this amazing evening for the residents of the village.

‘Arbor’ crowned UDIA Queensland’s best senior living development

We are extremely proud to announce that Arbor has received the state award in the ‘Senior Living’ category at the UDIA Queensland 2021 Awards for Excellence.

Our innovative, flexible financial model has attracted strong interest among retirees and downsizers, offering a high-quality retirement living option that is centred on dignity, fairness and individual lifestyle.

BHC CEO Rebecca Oelkers said that for many ageing Australians, a traditional retirement village is out of reach for their financial situation.

“Arbor Sherwood has brought a unique, affordable model to the market, specifically for retirement living,” Ms Oelkers said.

“The three contract options provided at Arbor allow residents to select their preferred apartment and then choose the financial model that suits them best.

“The model provides peace of mind for our older Australians – and their families – at what can sometimes be a complex and difficult time in their lives, and allows them to enjoy the life they love, easily and independently.”

Designed by Peddle Thorp Architects with sustainability and community in mind, Arbor was designed to keep the cost of living affordable for residents over the longer term.

“Importantly, each of Arbor’s four generous levels have been designed with a deep sense of care and consideration of residents as they age,” Ms Oelkers said. “For example, the property includes generous and luxurious communal spaces including a library, yoga space and community garden.”

Designed as a ‘vertical village’, Arbor has created micro-communities to provide opportunity for casual gatherings between neighbours, while maintaining privacy and passive surveillance for comfort and wellbeing.

“We know that social connectivity during retirement is directly linked to long-term mental and physical health, and that’s what Arbor delivers on so well,” Ms Oelkers said. “It’s more than a home, it’s a place where residents can come together and connect, share and enjoy each other’s company.”

A fashionably fun event for Arbor Sherwood residents

Cameras flashed, champagne glasses clinked, and resident models glided down the breezy level one corridor turned catwalk on Friday, 26 March as the community hosted their inaugural Fashion Parade.

After weeks of planning, 60 residents gathered to enjoy lively conversation, a sumptuous buffet lunch, lucky door prizes and the latest in smart casual clothing by Brisbane based designer, Glow Styling.

Money raised from the event will go toward the residents’ Annual Christmas Dinner.

Arbor Sherwood hosts regular social activities for residents including trivia nights, yoga classes and happy hour events.
